The Wikipedia Editor
To call a Wikipedia editor a ‘contributor’ to the world’s free encyclopedia would be generous – at most, Wikipedia editors are warriors. Instead of doing research and contributing to the summation of human knowledge, they spend their mornings, afternoons and part of their evenings escaping the shame of their failed marriages by getting drunk on a mixture of change logs and vandalism rollbacks.
Wikipedia editors guard an open field, protecting a wall that only they can see. These are the gentle soldiers that fight to preserve the sanctity that a 40-page article on fighting stances seen in the Star Wars galaxy is every bit as precious as a well-researched article that lists every person that has a name that rhymes with “Mel Brooks.”
Powered on their own perceptions of inadequacy, Wikipedia editors sit perched, hunched over a glowing IBM ThinkPad covered in old ‘Free Kevin’ stickers that are just too hard to get off. Unashamedly dedicated to the pursuit of open-source knowledge, they are known to have at least once argued with a total stranger on the bus about why Open Source Cola is more than just a way to support their growing man-baby – it’s a moral imperative!
Also, they’re all Swedish. It’s probably something you have to do to graduate high school over there.
Check out my buddy @msprout’s new blog. Bound to get some laughs out of it and hope to contribute to it in the future.
